Based on the 1976 Montana United States Bicentennial license plate On April 16, 1976, the Portland Timbers defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-2 in the NASL season opener. This victory is the basis for the April month tag on the “RCTID” Timbers-based 1976 plate patch. Supporters in Montana donated the cost of creating and shipping the patch so that all proceeds could be donated to the Montana Special Olympics.
