2016 Shrug

Originally conceived as a joke to soften the impact of a disastrous final week of the 2016 season, in which we failed to advance in CONCACAF Champions League by drawing at home and then handed the Cascadia Cup on a silver platter to the previously pathetic and flailing Whitecaps team, while at the same time knocking ourselves out of the playoffs after putting in a sorry performance. That was a rough week. Conventional wisdom was that we never do well on even numbered years, and we really reinforced that. The design was thrown together in a couple minutes and posted on FB with the caption “Too Soon?” It’s a very divisive patch. Those in the NENTBAP crowd (Not Everything Needs To Be a Patch) hate it, while others think it’s hilarious. The “artist” couldn’t bring himself to produce it, but dutifully turned it over to someone else who really wanted to see it made. Also known as “So What if We Suck?”
